The sign was there and so they assembled: Trees, lamp-posts and itinerant supermarkets all fell under the hypnotic suggestion of the cheerful-looking tick resting carelessly on the green background. It gave off an aura of better times, fostered by the co-operation of previously inanimate objects working toward a common goal. And a slight hint of ozone.
