Quatermass and the shiny thing.

The Magnificat-I probe was launched from the Spadeadam site in June 1957. Primarily designed to study the Van Allen belts, it was also to function as a deep-space packet relay for the Artemis project and the UK permanent base on the moon which came to be known as Isfield-Selene. Magnificat-II and III were launched the following year and were used to map the greater part of the asteroid belts.
